Our tribute to the diversity of American music inspired by the Figge Art Museum’s For America exhibit is a symphonic tapestry weaving together many different musical traditions. The program begins with Aaron Copland’s evocation of the spirit of rural Americana in Appalachian Spring. The Sphinx Quartet joins the QCSO for Michael Abels’s energetic combination of jazz, blues, bluegrass, and Latin dance in his Delights and Dances. We conclude with selections from two outstanding and distinctive works, beginning with the Fugue from Charles Ives’ epic Symphony No. 4 based on the hymn “From Greenland’s Icy Mountains,” and finally “Chasqui” and “Coqueteos” from Gabriela Lena Frank’s Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout.

$1 from every ticket sold to Masterworks VI: For America will be donated to the African American Leadership Society of the United Way of the Quad Cities.

The digital concert will air on Sunday, April 11, 2021, at 2:00 pm via the QCSO’s Uscreen Channel. To ensure the highest quality video and audio experience and that the stream airs uninterrupted, the live stream will be a recording of the Saturday evening performance.
